My friend's daughter Katie and her boyfriend Zach went to the junior prom last Saturday. I took a some shots of them before they left. Here are a few of my favorites. C&C welcome! ;)

Thanks for looking!
- Tom

(I know selective coloring is overdone on occasion, but I thought this really worked well for this shot)

I can't decide if I like selective coloring or not (but that's a whole 'nother topic) ... but I really like all of these photos. I think #2 might be my favorite.

I think they're all good. The first one, I really like how its soft on the edges and gets sharper on her face, gives it a sort of innocence and I think the selective coloring works as its a very soft color on it, nothing that jumps out and grabs ya like if it had a been a red rose. It works for me.
Like the second one, the crop and all, the only thing I would have done was to have her lower the rose, his bouttoneire (sp?) is already pretty much in the same spot, makes it sort of crowded but otherwise I like it.
The third is nice as well. She's got a great smile. Again would like to have seen the rose lowered and maybe hold his hands or something but otherwise I like it.
They look sharp, the colors and conversion is good, lighting and so on. Great job.

Obviously everyone that does selective color feels the exact same way about their picture or they wouldn't do it.

I do really like the composition of the first two pictures, I'd maybe get rid of the selective color and spend the time clearing up some of the guy's acne instead.

I like the way the grass frames the bottom of the shot on number 3. Nice work!

these are all nice. While #2 is probably my fave, I agree with the placement of the rose & boutinnere. The selective coloring one works for me, very soft and makes you think young & innocent! #3 I would have liked better if she wasn't holding the rose up, maybe if she had her hands clasped and the rose dangling? would have made me like this shot better. It's the only thing to me that looks posed in #3. Bet they really liked these!!

I know that these are old, but can anyone tell what the settings might me? I love the composition and wanted to practice with a starting point. My dd has her dance tomorrow evening and I am going to be taking prehomecoming photos. I love the focus. I will be using the lenses in my list.

TIA

I like them, a few suggestions. Blown out skies are easy to rectify if you have a flash unit to help get your subjects up to the brightness of your sky. Unless the sky was a cloudy gray anyways. Is there a reason why you didn't try to tone down the acne? Since its a temporary part of life toning it down is usually appreciated. And hide his fang! :)

Keep an eye on backgrounds, that darned house in the background on number 2 is a little bit of a bummer.

Of course, these are very nit-picky thoughts - their parents and they should absolutely love them.

Hey folks... To answer some questions...

The acne in the final photos was cleared up a bit before final delivery. ;-)a

As far as settings... I had to dig out the disc from my archives, but here you go...

All were shot with one of my 30Ds in Av mode, flash fill with the 580ex.

The sky was very overcast that day. Actually, there was a storm starting to brew and it was starting to drizzle when we started. So these shots were taken quite quickly...

Number 1:
Shot with the 70-200 f/2.8 IS at 170mm
f/6.3
1/100sec
ISO 200

Number 2:
Shot with the 70-200 f/2.8 IS at 95mm
f/6.3
1/60sec
ISO 200

Number 3:
Shot with the 70-200 f/2.8 IS at 70mm
f/6.3
1/125sec
ISO 200
