Strange red bird... need ID

This isn't the best of photos by any stretch of the imagination, cropped, bad light, not enough reach (200 + 1.4TC), bird moving around quite a bit, perched high and kept his/her distance - although it did check out the feeders (from a distance though). It seemed to follow around a couple of woodpeckers that came to feed on something or other.. Anycase, I saw this red thing flying around and the richness of the reds and pattern of flight disqualified this as being a cardinal immediately. I've never seen this bird around here before. The red is absolutely striking! Any ideas anyone??
