What camera?
Does it *sound* like it works?
Does the shutter open? (look through it from the back)
What film?
Where developed?
Is it black or transparant?

Rene is asking all the right questions. Especially the black or transparant one. :)

Translates... The photo lab made an 'oopsie' then told you there was nothing on the film. It has happened to me a couple times. Destroyed my roll of Velvia I had been shooting waterfalls with over the span of a few months, even though I marked all over the envelope that it wasn't normal (c-41) film.

Sorry, I just could not resist.

If the film is transparent then a couple of things could have happened:

1. The film never was exposed, i.e. the film leader never made it onto the take up reel and the film stayed in the film cartridge the entire time. When the film was developed, nothing was exposed on the film, therefore the negatives are transparent (exposure to light results in a dark image on the film after development - anything not exposed is washed away in the development process).

2. The lab improperly processed your film. This is, I think, less likely than the 1st possibility as labs these days are very automated.

If it is negative film, and transparant, it's not been exposed. The border markings (brand & numbering) will be there. If markings are gone as well, it's not developed, only fixed. (Or B/W film developed as color negative)
If it's slide film, and the frames are transparent, but the borders are black, it's overexposed. If the entire film is transparent, the film is exposed to light (outside a camera ;)). All markings and borders will be gone as well.
