I made this to give to my son's coach as a thank you for his efforts this spring, was looking for suggestions on how to improve it.

A link to a slightly bigger version is below.

I like it! Very unique.

If I had to suggest something.. Perhaps a landscape variant or larger image altogether so that you can get a much bigger team portrait in there.

Edit: Is this a real mat or a virtual one like QuickMats? I'd love to buy QuickMats but for its price, there are many more things I could purchase instead!

I think it's a really nice thing to do. If I were the coach I'd feel really appreciated.

However, I'm not the coach, and you did say you wanted some C&C....

1. The red/mauve background is garish. I would have used a black/grey background so that the colours in the photos themeslves have room to breathe. Like on SmugMug (external link).

2. I wouldn't have bothered with the ball/glove motif because it just adds clutter. Leave it out and make the pictures of the kids bigger.

3. The lettering around each kid's photo is overdone. You don't need to say "Busby Appraisal 2007" on every photo. I would have cleaned up the lettering: something simple like the name and number (e.g. Wes Thomas #16) is all that's needed.

4. The title is too big and the team portrait is too small. Switching to a landscape format, as milleker suggested, might be one way of making room for a bigger team picture.

As things stand, about 30% of the frame is content and about 70% is background /clutter / frippery. It should be the other way round.

its cute, they look like baseball cards!! the kids will love it but....
that picture for the frame is bit too much. the colors are just too close. id like one the color of the uniform and the other maybe white?
i also with the team shot was bigger somehow. with 12 pictures , not much room for it to grow.

but overall, really great! hope the parents buy em up by the truckload!!

Thanks for the suggestions, I'm not to crazy about the matt colors, but those are the team colors, gray and white just didn't seem to simulate a matted baseball card set, with a matted team picture in the center, the look I was going for. It's designed to be printed 16x20, there seem to be very, few landscape posters around, so I didn't want to break tradition.

Anyone like this better than the original? I'm still not happy with it.
