this was the ONLY time in my birding experiences so far, that I wished I'd had a zoom...we were walking around a lake and two bald eagles decided to BUZZ us...they were so amazing up close (and quite a bit larger than I'd realized). I realize the wings are clipped but what can one do? I was using the 300mm & 1.4tc...most of these are not cropped at all...they were so close!

Thanks :)

We're going out later today, back to the area where we've seen them twice. I'm trying to decide if I want to put my 70-200 on with the tc and have the zoom but lose the distance or just tough it out with my beloved 300 & tc. :) One of the members on here, suggested the 300 for me months and months ago...I thought he was nuts...well, he is nuts so that really has nothing to do with it  ....but I'm happy I bought it for my birding. Until this shoot, it has suited me in all aspects!

Photographs are records of life. Pity they don't make music when you put them in a record player. :p

Lovely photos . .Good camera work . You had to manual focus, also. with the 1.4 on?. That is a lot of "fun". Cheerio. Bri

Thank you Brian. No, I didn't have to MF. The 300 is an F4 IS so the 1.4 only takes it to 5.6...I could NEVER mf bif shots :)

I should have known better. It is only that I use a 400L 5.6 [just got it] and it will not a/f with a 1.4 , or the 2x, . Which caught me by suprise. Live and learn. Thanks again for the advice. Persistant, try-again, and again. never give up . I look forward to your work . Brian.;)
