Went to my nephew's baseball game yesterday, early evening, and took the Canon Digital Rebel along to get some pics. The game was a bust---my nephew's team went down 11-1 and it was called for the "blowout" rule. But at the park, on top of about five different light poles, were osprey nests.
And boy those suckers were active yesterday.
One of them was flying around with a fish in its talons, at times lighting
on a power pole to peck at its meal. I put on the 80-200 lense and hit the
jackpot. Got some simply incredible close-up shots of the osprey flying in
BEAUTIFUL sunset light.
This may be old hat for some of you who have had digital SLRs for a while,
but for me the ability to take these sorts of action shots is incredible,
after years using digital cameras that take much too long to focus and take a picture.

Afterthought...

OK, so my post was less than kind! It's that sort of morning - dark, rain coming...
On the news, the weather girl asked what comes after 2 days of rain?
Answer: Monday!

I just noticed that you've just joined, so if you don't have a site to post pics, then try Fotopic.net It's not a wonderful solution & they were having some problems last week, but it's free & will get you started.
And, I love my 300D, too.

Yes, you're correct...I don't have a site to post pics yet. Thanks for the tip, I will try it out.
(Plus I just got done uploading the pics this morning, so it's not like I've been sitting on my hands...)

may I make a kind suggestion, crop some of the sky, I had to scroll around just to find the bird.
I use photobucket.com to host my pictures, and once you upload one, it offers you the correct link that this forum requires to post your images. All you have to do is copy and paste the link and the picture shows up in your post. Very easy.

I did on the first one...the second two, I hadn't messed with yet...just wanted to put them up to give some idea of the shots I got.

3072 x 2048 is WAY too large a pic to post unless you don't mind everyone with a dial-up connection to start hating you. It didn't load particularly fast on my cable connection, either. Plus, if you have a really nice one, you're inviting someone to steal it!
600-800ppi longest dimension at 72 ppi resolution is a better way to go. It should compress down to under 100KB, or so.
