Drove by a field the other day and saw this male surrounded by a bunch of hens. Despite his best efforts, they didn't seem to be too interested. Sorry about the OOF vegetation in the foreground. Didn't want to spook them by getting out of the car.

Nice turkey.

Could you give some information about which lens and f-stop you used? The out-of-focus background looks kinda freaky.

1/1000 at F6.3, ISO 800, 400mm on the 100-400L. Guess I had the iso set for something else. Oh well. Happens to the best photographers, and I'm far from the best!!

Thanks for the information. I'm just trying to learn, and therefore soaking up all the information I can get. (I recently purchased a 100-400L and I'm still trying to get used to it.) I wonder if the background strangeness I'm seeing is simply due to the heavy compression to get the file down to 100K. Is the original image (or something close to it) available for viewing anywhere?

The only place the original image is is on my hard drive. Sorry, but I haven't got around to putting my pictures anyplace else. Not that computer literate and not enough time. I did look at the original picture and the same weirdness is present to much the same degree. I wonder if it is something to do with heat distortion. As I remember it was quite a warm day and those fields do get pretty hot at ground level. But actually I was more peeved by the green OOF vegetation in the foreground as I said before. Thanks for looking. Sorry I can't help more with the technical side.

Bob
