2nd Thoughts on 1D Mark II (weight? wait!)

I just realized what the Mark II weighs with the battery pack in it, and I'm wondering how onerous people find it to lug around. I haven't cancelled my order yet, but the numbers are worth considering ...

Weight of Mark II with battery pack, 550EX and batteries, and 24-70/2.8L: 6.7 lbs! Yes, I can lift that much, but carrying it around at the all day events that I sometimes shoot might get to be a bit much. Fortunately, I usually do without the flash or use the 420EX, and can save weight by sticking with my 16-35/2.8L. But the rig will still be fairly heavy.

Does anyone know what the 10D's vertical grip (BG-ED3) weighs? I'm trying to do a comparison, and I can't find the weight of that component anywhere. Thanks.

Mike

The BG-ED3 Battery grip weighs 320g (11.3 oz) plus batteries at 71 grams each (2.5 oz).

You better get down to your local gym

Thanks, SDK. That's actually good news, since it means that my most common configuration of the 10D (10D, BG-ED3, 16-35) is only .8 lbs. less than a similarly configured Mark II. Maybe I can skip that extra set of curls today. :D

I just got a lowepro bag that will let me carry 3* L lenses, my 10 D, my flash, batteries and cheese (definately L ) butties (sandwiches). I never thought when I got the bag I would need a hoist to get the thing round my waist! Still, it is so, so, comforting to have those babies real close!

I just got back from lugging a 1ds with a 100-400 and all my other lenses around for three straight days at a 2.3 mile road racing course. While it was exhausting, the picks are worth ever drop of sweat!

Anyone's calculated the price per cameraweight?
How much does a gram of a 10D, 1DMKII, 1Ds, (bodies only of course) etc cost ? :)

I used the 1D Mark II on Saturday and Sunday for about 2-3 hours each time. While the weight is noticeable, it feels good in your hands. I don't use the neck strap. While working in a crowd, I felt very happy to be using this:

That way if the camera slips or some knocks into you, no problem.

I should think that although heavy, it should be somewhat counterbalanced. To me the 10D and Canon 24-70mm F2.8L feels perfect. It is definitely better balanced then the Sigma 120-300 F2.8EX. That makes it a 2 hand camera whilst shooting. Otherwise it can be carried by the lens.
