Downy Woodpeckers?

I think it is a male & female Downy, quite small (10 to 15cm). I think a Hairy woodpecker would be larger?

The first shot is a male Downy. The tiny black spots on the under tail normally are only present on downies. The second appears to be a downy but it's hard for me to be certain from that angle. The bill looks small but since only a part of it is visible it's tough to absolutely certain.
Your size estimates are a little light - Downy 15-18 CM, Hairy 19-24 CM. Size isn't alway reliable on these two. As you can see a big Downy and a small Hairy are very close in size.

Whichever they are, they are both great photos, 10 - 15 cm is a small woody, you did well.

Nice shots. They both look like Downys to me. A Hairy has the longer beak but my sure fire way of identifying the two is the Hairy has a lot more nose hair than the downy. :)
