Here are some shots from the Keith Urban show last Friday 18 May at Rod Laver Arena in Melbourne.

Pretty tough shooting conditions from behind the mixing desk when the longest lens I had was a 70-200, 2 song rule in force (and half one of the songs dim red light). Here are a few shots though for your viewing pleasure. I know they aren't up to my usual standard, all are heavily cropped but they turned out better than I thought they would.

The other really tragic thing was Nicole Kidman was sitting about 5 feet from me but was under strict instructions from Keith Urban management not to photograph her!

Enjoy - C&C welcome

Awesome, Awesome, Awesome... Great pictures...

Is Nicole really that cute in real life too?

I listen to Keith's music often... my local venue radio station always plays his songs...

Way to go Richard.

One thing Nicole and I have in common is taste in men (well, apart from that Cruise bloke). This guy is a hunk.

Love the photos.

First one is nice...
Most crops are a bit 'square' for my taste ;)
Some exposure problems on a few others... You know why?

I think it was just that the shots were taken from so far back in very tricky lighting - the photos posted are very heavily cropped... they would be 25% or less of the original image.

This is the reason I bought my 400mm f/2.8 and big Wimberley/Gitzo tripod ... there are times when restrictions can be very tight or sometimes I am allowed to shoot "all night" but only from back by the lightboard at the casino. One thing for sure, someone is always trying think up new ways to screw with the photographers ... I think it is a game they play because everyone gets terribly bored on these tours!

The newspaper reporters were using 400 f2.8s that they just grabbed from the gear room - wish I had a gear room like that!

My local papers don't have such a gear room ... they make do with 70-200 and 70-300 zooms!
