Dandelion DoF?

I thought that f9.0 would have been plenty to get this sharp. Am I wrong (well obviously - but whadayathink?)

ISO 200, 1/100, f9.0, 24-70 at 70 mm

Very special. Is this a frozen or humid dandelion?

If something in the pic is sharp, then that’s good enough for me! Try not to fall into the “L-trap� where everything must be needle sharp! (Man…, I’m going to catch it for that!)

DOF & focus are just tools, like any other. See my posts on “Dandy Lions� for some examples. More coming when I get the time to convert them.
I like it if the center drops are sharp somewhere… it’s hard to tell in the small pic.

Maybe I am caught in the "L trap." But anyway, what I wanted was a dof greater than this. It was a dew soaked dandelion on a bright spring morning. I hadn't actually expected the efect I got. Those droplets are utterly miniscule. I would have liked a degree of sharpness slightly greater than I got.

You said "morning", so I figured that there wasn't any wind - but how about camera movement forward & back? This would throw off your exact focus point @ f-9. I've found that to be true for me. The DOFocus is about this >< wide. Once you're set up with general focal length, aperature & focus, etc, it's best to focus by moving toward & back from the subject - don't screw around with changing @ the lens if you're in MF which I usually use. If AF, then you lock it when you depress the shutter button, but that doesn't mean that you don't have time to move before it goes off!
On something like that, I'd take 5-10 shots just to cover the fact that I know I can't hold it THAT steady to maintain focus when I'm changing the pressure that I'm putting on the cam to press the shutter.
Options:
Use a Tripod.
Shoot when the wind isn't blowing.
Go up to f-16.

And, have fun!

I like how the dark corners give the impression of vignetting but it's actually the edges of the little ball.
