The composition is interesting, and the mountain line takes you to the bird, but I get stuck where the 'middle' branch intercepts the mountain. I would paint the sky down and change the ridgeline—or go back and see if the bird is still there and take another shot from a slightly different angle. -Carl

The Eastern version is the Yellow Shafted Northern Flicker which has black mustache. ![]() Well, that's very interesting! I'm new to birds, so I very much appreciate such information. Thanks!
