Quick question RE: Canon FD 50mm F1.8

Hey guys - just a quick question:

Will a Canon FD 50mm F1.8 fit a 300D?

i'm about to get the 300d and lots of ppl have told me to get it
so i'm guessing so

FD lenses won't fit on EOS cameras.

FD was Canon's old (20 years ago?) lensmount, EOS is the new one.

Not that big a problem ... the Canon EOS 1.8/50 costs about US$ 70 new.
I think I have heard of an adapter for FD lenses for the EOS system, but that will be a lot more expensive than the lens. So if you have an FD 500/5.6 L mm lens or so (if there are those :lol, it might be interesting.

I think a 50mm 1.x lens will be my next purchase! Actually I'll probably get a 440EX flash first.

Some FD lenses can be theoretically changed so that they fit an EOS mount but with the FD50/1.8 it is definitely,absolutally not worth the hassle.With a 300/2.8,now THAT would be a different story!
Oh while on the 50/1.8 subject-the EOS version is better anyway....


i've only ever heard of one person doing FD to EOS lens change overs and i recall he charges several 100 us$ per lens.Even then i wouldn't be able to tell you who he is because i haven't heard anyone mention him for over a year.

Also once a lens is changed to eos mount,it still has to be focused by hand,stopped down by hand and gives not-quite-acurate meter readings on later EOS cameras.

For what it's worth i have just temporarilly changed over an FD85/1.8 to EOS mount (temorary as in silicon rubber glue.... hey, it works !).I haven't tried it on a film EOS yet but i think the rear element will hit the mirror.
It works very well on the 300D when the appropriate compensation is dialed in (in P mode) or the shutter speed is set after trial and error.

I intended it to be a economical manually focused portrait lens that will replace the perspective i used to love with 135mm on film.Early tests show it to be well worth it!

I used it at a rodeo last night where the light was so low that the ONLY lenses i could use were the EF50/1.8 & the FD85/1.8 at high ISO's and even then all i got were motion blured arty stuff.

judging from the picture, the silicon rubber might not have enough stability on that camera mount

(Just kidding, I think the effect in the photo is great).
