A very vocal, and normally not a bird down at eye level but when looking for a nest/cavity they are all over the place. Many nests from this species contain shed snakeskins or other crinkly materials such as cellophane or onion skins.

These shots were taken a week ago today and I still have only processed 3 but they are likely the better in the series anyway. All taken at around 6:30-06:45 PM so later light and all taken with the 400 F5.6 on the 30D with the 580EX for fill.

Regards!

Very nice Gary. I have found that the several I've seen and shot here are at head level or below. It might be because of the brush, but they seem to like being on lower branches, even fallen small trees rather than way up high.

Hi Gary, These guys are one of my favorite birds because of their energetic vocals. You did a nice job catching them sitting still—they're almost as fidgety as warblers.

Hi Mitch...I got my info from
http://www.birds.cornell.edu …t_Crested_Flycatcher.html (external link)

I have seen them in the Spring and then occasionaly I see them lower if they are hunting on lower branches. I have seen these guys 4 times since last Friday but way up..

I liked #1 the best for the same reason but somehow the second one keeps growing on me regardless of the shadow...not sure why. The first one is almost full frame so for that reason alone I think it will remain my fave. Thanks for the feedback Alan :D

In the bigger bird catagory they certainly do move about continuously. Even when you don't see them you can hear them moving from area to area just from the vocalization...an intriguiging bird and quite territorial. I witnessed this species battling with neighbouring Sapsuckers last Summer. I thinks they dished out more than they received. Thanks for the comment Carl :D

And thanks also to Gary, Dennis and johnstoy for looking and commenting

I just love the 1st shot. I was happy :) to have gotten a few shots of one of these in the Everglades as few weeks ago. He was new for me.

Beautiful shots Gary - got to agree with No.2 - maybe it's the intense look/stare it has about it. Excellent work.
Regards Alan.
