Small like Mom and Pop shops, I talked to a local shop and they were really nice. I have been in there before actually and they are nice, they said they usually send out the photos to be printed for 10 cents a print. They do, do them in house if I need them back in a hurry for like 7 cents more. No big deal, but I'm having issues with places around here such as walgreens and cvs, not exposing my pictures correclty.

So my question is, with these small shops, how likely are they to mess something up ?

I never take my photo/image to the small local shop anymore this for a couple of reasons... Yes they really nice people, but my prints quality is important to me caused each photo/img, i have to spend atleast 10mins_each, retouching, brightnest, contrast etc.... so i want good results print/output.

#1, I've find out the hard way, most have very limited in computer or software knowledge. i talk to these people(lots) and sit & watching what they do.

#2, the mini Labs use to develop prints is small, so the quality is not so good too. only cost around $100k for the machine. same photo/image i took to two different place to print_out and compare & you will know the results for your self.

#3, I only take my to the pros or Large Expensive Lab System for my prints only, the results is Wowww....., you have to remember this system is over $250K each..
:), and cost of each print is not much different in price maybe very much the same if price is an issue for you.

I have used small shops and like the results and quality of the prints I have received back. It all depends. You cannot just over-generalise on this subject matter and make false associations with the results obtained by others. I guess you can just try a few out. These days I am all up for spending my money in less corporate places and letting my money go to the smaller and occasionally more caring retailers, and help them pay their bills and put bread and butter on their tables, instead of feeding some corporate fat cat that don't care about the beauty and creativity of us 'mere' photographing public...

however, i am referring more to prints from film as opposed to digital (I do most of my digital printing at home....)

Very? Get a test print here. (external link) Have it printed. Have it printed 2 hours later. Have it printed 1 week later. Now compare.
Only Costco has passed that test in my area.
