That's a great shot.

From the Rolex 24 Saturday night. Cranked up the ISO and panned, panned and panned some more. I think I did ok considering my panning practice has been at this race two years in a row and never at night.

No need to apologize for that shot.... It was tough shooting out there. Between the rain and the cold I could not feel my fingers - I had to constantly check to see if my fingers were on the buttons. I shot a lot of garbage that night.

Thanks. It was cold for sure. We didn't stay overnight so we missed the majority of the rain. We came back in the morning after it had stopped to catch the final 4 hours. Just our luck that the 2 coldest days out of the past month were Saturday and Sunday of the race. I'm sitting here at work looking out the window at bright skies and 70 degree temps! Grrr.....

Great shots, Jared.
I was checking out your album. Nice shots! On the shots that the cars were at an oncoming angle, were you shooting AI Servo? I liked how you were able to get the wheel motion but still keep the car entirely in focus at f/2.8 and quite a slow shutter speed? All mine I ended up freezing the wheels too much, but I was at a higher shutter speed and was using one shot. I should have experimented more with the settings, but was caught up watching the race.
Tons of pics! I like it.

Thank you! For those shots you are talking about I just set the focus point to where I think the front of the car will be and most of the time take one shot but sometimes I'll do a couple. I also use a monopod to keep thing stable.

I did a little experimenting with second curtain flash... I'm not sure if I like the results.

It's not the sort of thing that I would use all the time, but it is interesting in small doses. Good idea!

During a recent holiday in New Zealand I attended the Highland 101 race meeting (Nov11/13th) at the Highland racetrack in Cromwell; Otago on South Island. What a fantastic circuit; with great spectator access and facilities. British circuits take note!
