I was digging through images today looking for something...thinking about racecars...I will miss Petit LeMans this year due to a scheduling conflict...this is from last year.

Thanks. Its fun to try to shoot that low...and now there is a batch of pros out there doing these "whip pans"...now I have something else to try to learn...a pan with a SS of .5-1 second...

Here I was impressed with your 1/25th. Now I'm a bit confused. I thought Whip Pans were only a cinematic effect used for scene transitions. How would they be used for a single still shot? Could you provide any examples of the technique? All I find online are the cinematic types. Thanks.

Technically, yes. But I think he is just generically referring to seeing how slow one can go while still maintaining some detail. I personally don't like video, I call them "cheaters". LOL. I may be wrong, I do not pretend to speak for him.

I think they take the concept of the cinematic whip pan and translate it to motorsports. It messed with my head...1/2 to full second...pan with the car at speed first and then time it to whip the camera for the last half of the exposure...I will post links later.

I want to die peacefully, in my sleep, like my grandfather.
Not screaming, terrified, like his passengers.

This is what I have learned is a "whip pan" in motorsports...I just screencapped the whole image with the photogs profile...can't share from IG. I have yet to try it...but holy crap I think its gonna be hard to do...another guy doing them at the same race, said 75-80 attempts to get 1...and this is a guy who is an accomplished pro...

Words fail me. This is very artsy and while I’m impressed with the uniqueness and the time involved, I’ll pass. I know that at my age, I’m too shaky to even try shooting at a quarter second. And if it would take me 75 to 100 attempts to get a good shot, I’m sure I’d runout of patience long before that. -? Beside, most of my customers would look at this and wonder why I showed them an out of focus blurr.:-P

Thanks for the example and info TRhoads.
