This osprey dove, grabbed an alewife, and flew off. There's a fish in his talons under his wings, somewhere.

There's something about this one that I like...

A wide-eyed osprey water skiing? Avian water sports? Hmmm...

That photo sure is attractive.
I think the osprey has realized that the fish was already grabbed and assumed a protective position while looking around.

It approched the fish in a slight sliding move, right?

Your gallery is great. I think you were spoted on 4950.

Thanks for sharing, Sottes.

Hush CDS! You'll get everyone excited and then they'll all go up here and take all the best pictures and wear out the osprey!
:)

Seriously, if anyone is in New England and wants to make this trip just let me know. The alewives will be running for about another 2 weeks. I've got maps and directions to get there. CDS and I have some good tips, too. And if anyone wants to go some day between the 22nd and 28th we can make a road trip - I'm sure that I'll be going back that week.

CDS/Scottes,
Man you are making me jealous. There isn't a heck of a lot to shoot out here in the Fens. I might have to take a gander at Wicken Fen Nature Reserve. Here are a few links if you're interested...

Skimming the water... that's such a fantastic image! Well done.
