something different, GBH Rookery IR

just doing some playing around with my new IR camera and wanted to get some opinions on this shot that was taken today. i still suck with IR but at least the subject is nice

What camera is this done with and what format do you shoot it in? RAW?

canon d60 and yes, it was shot in RAW.

Well Snir, I know nothing about IR at all...but just looking at it from a novice perspective, I like the shot...it's a cool effect.

What aperture did you use for this? I don't know if it's the IR playing tricks with my eyes, or maybe it's just too busy, but it looks OOF to me. It may be where the different elements are blending into each other, not sure!?!

ps. Is there a bird in there somewhere?

Scott. i used f16 which is why i was surprised to see that nothing is sharp. like i said, i am new to this IR thing so maybe i just screwed up. as for the birds, there are actually about 7-8 herons in that shot.

Snir, you may already know about this, but once it's converted to jpg or even a tiff, open it in CS2, and use the color channels. Open each one separately, find the most blurred one and then use Filters/Sharpen/Sharpe​n Edges on it once, or twice if it needs it. You might be surprised. You can also nudge the whole channel layer one pixel at a time if it's really bad. Worth a try. It's amazing what it does.

i will give it a shot Mitch but i have a feeling that it is something to do with the IR so i will need to figure what it is exactly. so far, i haven't had a single sharp IR shot which is starting to worry me.

Well, I don't even know how many channels IR will have, probably 3 like any jpg, but It's an obscure little procedure I ran into in the CS2 Bible, and I was very pleasantly surprised how well it sharpens without adding any noticable noise. I hope it works for you.

i am not worried. worst comes to worst, i will sell the setup and will have an extra $900 to invest in some other toy
