Well, today @ work I sold the first 16gig CF Extreme 3 by Sandisk. It was 369.99 with a 20 or 30 dollar mail in rebate. Thought I let you guys know if theres a local Frys Electronic, grab one. But really why would one need it? Soooo much!!!

-Talk about it.

Imagine losing 16GB worth of images when you drop the card or leave it on a wall somewhere. I'll stick to my lots of 2GBs.

Likewise! It's just not worth it having all your eggs in one basket.

Camera image file sizes are only going in one direction at the moment.

Like the previous replies, I would not pay so much for such a big card, but then I can capture 240 RAWS on the 2Gb extreme 3's I have just bought.

More baskets, more likely to drop one, however as they are smaller baskets you loose less eggs.

Personally I buy in the 'bang for buck' range, i.e. the cheapest per $

Good point. With a 16GB card, I could hold around 1,500 RAW images and probably would never have to worry about taking it out of my camera! Unless I was away from my laptop for a very extended amount of time (which will never happen).

I can't imagine pulling out the folder on the computer to see 1500 RAW files. Then, there's that part transferring the images to your HDD. Lordy.

Yep I also will stay with smaller (2gb-4gb) and more of them.

Please speak slowly and distinctly. I have a wife, AND a computer, I don't need any more confusion in my life.

But really why would one need it? Soooo much!!!

I'm with the rest -- 2 GB for a camera and get more of them if necessary -- but a big CF card is a dandy way to get stuff from a laptop to the desktop. My mail program (Pegasus) will even reference a CF card (or other movable storage) for the "Mail" folder where all the current and archived e-mails are kept.

16 gigs doesn't seem much nowadays, but it's almost as big as the HD on my older laptop. I'd get a 16 gb CF card in a minute if it were $69, and that time may come, especially if a few more people wake up to how much more convenient (and from what I've seen faster) a CF card and carrier or USB reader is than a "keychain" drive or whatever they're calling them now -- and plugging in a cable doesn't wreck the USB socket like rassling a rigid drive into it will. Or maybe that's "doesn't wreck it as fast."

By the way, I'm storing an extra CF card in the space where the 2nd battery would go in the 30D's battery grip, have been for months now, and it doesn't seem to hurt it being next to the battery. (That I thought it might shows how ignorant I am of how a CF card works but I'm sure someone here will set me straight.)

Isn't that space reserved for a second battery? :)

I must be odd-man out on this one -- I'm in for the 8 GB cards, 16 when the price falls.
