I have the Spyder 2 Suite and if I would do it again I would get the Eye One. Not that the Spyder is not working for me, but rather its incomplete for the complete workflow. From image on the screen to the print.

I recently got the Spyder2 Pro, and it comes with another software package called PrintFIX PLUS. I haven't used it because I don't print my own pictures at home, but what this does, is send standard patterns to your printer, and it looks like you use the Spyder colorimieter to "read" the printed paterns, and it creates a color profile for your printer, which, I would assume, one would use for "soft proofing" for your printer.

From what I've read, they are the same. The GMB version supposedly comes packaged a little better, but the Pantone version supposedly has a newer version of the software that's a little better.

I just pulled the trigger on the Pantone version this morning. I got it at Buy.com for $151 shipped.

I'm not sure about the pricematching. I used a 10% off coupon on techbargains.com to get it to $151.

The version that comes w/ the spectrocolormeter needed to clibrate the printer is in the Printfix Pro Suite which is around $600. The Spyder2 Pro comes only w/ the colormter whichcan only read color from the monitor. The Printfix s/w relies on your eye to make the adjustment and doesn't work very well. To give you an example I use up a whole set of ink before I gave up on it.

I was talking to Keith Cooper (of http://www.northlight-images.co.uk/ (external link)) who said that the Huey's small size can cause problems with accuracy, and he recommended me the Spyder - I'm more than happy with its results.

No issues that I've seen with the Huey or HueyPro calibrating my 20" Apple Cinema Series and the reuslts are extremely accurate.

I own the Spyder2Pro Suite and love it. All 6 PCs in my house ar dual display and I used to go nuts if I moved a picture from one to the other, now its great.

from another forum, i'm chatting with one guy in europe whom has the eye one 2 display. he said it's very accurate, so only had to calibrate his monitor every 4 wks.

I really like it so far. My home PC was actually pretty good just using Adobe Gamma, but I do get prints that look better with my little Canon Selphy. I'll have a better idea once I send another batch of prints out. I also calibrated my dual-monitor LCDs at work, and it made a huge difference in those. Only problem I have is I can't figure out how to apply the profiles to each monitor. Whenever I set a default profile for one monitor, it changes it for the other monitor as well. If anyone has any ideas, I'm open to suggestions.

for those who are saying that the images are "more accurate" are you talking about that they look better in terms of what you remember? or are they more accurate to the print out? how important is it to have printer profiling?

i'm deciding between monitor only (spyder2 or huey) and full calibration (PrintFixPro)

good question.. i'd like to know that too..

if you will be doing ur own printing.. then probably ppl will suggest full calibration.. but that's a bit pricey ain't it?

yeah the cheapest reliable store right now is buydig selling the PFP Suite at $493 with a $100 rebate bringing it down to $393. If you have a business to run it through, its effectively roughly $300 after tax.

Now compare that to Huey Pro, Eye-One DisplayLT, Eye-One Display 2, and Spyder2Pro... its enough to drive you mad!!!
