Baby goldfinches

I have finally got a couple of reasonable shots of the goldfinches that started visiting our garden a little while ago.

Today, they brought 3 of their babies to feed

The baby shots were taken through the conservatory window as it was raining, so all in all they werent too bad. I took the parent's pics outside although it was still raining lightly.

Thanks Phil - yes, I have never seen baby goldfinches before, so this is a thrill for me.

Nice shots Linda, I've never seen young Goldfinches either. Haven'y managed a decent shot of a Goldfinch either.

Looking at the photo daddy is on the left and mummy to the right.
The main feature in the male is , the blaze [red] on the face goes past the eye.
Did you know a baby goldfinch is called a pate.

Thanks Adi. I have been approaching them very carefully as I dont want to scare them off. They only started visiting recently after Nick on here gave me the tip to put out some sunflower hearts which worked perfectly. I am hoping when they get more used to me I can get a little closer, and of course better weather lol.

Goodluck. Yeah, better weather would be nice, not too hot though.

Hi and thanks for that info Davy, I just couldnt fathom out how to tell the difference between the male and the female, its so slight isnt it. Glad you told me what to look for, so thanks
