Yesterday on my way back home I ventured out into a marshy area that I've been to lots for a few years. This year is a bit different as the water level is so low you can actually tread through quite a ways. I knew there were Marsh Wrens there because I have canoed through before and seen them...but now I could go, carefully, on foot. Got a couple of shots, but nothing extraordinary as I was pressed for time. Time to go back soon...
...Early this morning I went back, along with Wayne, with the sole intention of getting keeper shots of this delightful little species. We were not dissapointed. After walking about 150 yards out into the marsh (in about 8-15 inches of water) we stopped when we heard a bunch of them. We just stood there and let them come to us, soon we were surrounded by 4-5 of them with their song resonating 360 degres all around us
. We regularly had one 12-15 feet from us, and at times we could hear one hidden in the grasses a mere few feet away. A few times we saw one carrying nesting material and going to a probable nest location underneath the dried reeds...as long as the water level doesn't rise I think I (we) have a little project on my (our)hands!
