My wife and I went for a bird walk in Jacobsburg State Park here in Pennsylvania. This is one of our favorite dayhiking/birding/outdoor venues.
I thought I share some of birds I got to photograph today. Comment and criticisms would be appreciated.
My biggest disappointments of the day - missing the Magnolia Warbler and Indigo Bunting (twice). Didn't get a shot off at either. Otherwise it was a great morning albeit a bit on the warm side.
All images were made with the XT and 400 5.6 tripod-mounted.
Thanks for looking and please let me know what you think.
The first bird I came across was a Common Yellowthroat. And this was lesson #1. Make sure everything is ready to go before leaving the parking lot. I got one shot off and that was at whatever setting I last used yesterday.
As we moved on to an area where there are a series of nest boxes occupied by Bluebirds and Tree Swallows, I found this lone male Eastern Bluebird standing sentry over one of the boxes.
A little further up the trail there were American Goldfinches frolicing in the tall grass. Here is one of them.
Drink your tea! Drink your tea! We moved on to another trail and heard the loud song of the Eastern (Rufous-Sided) Towhee. We found him hopping around deep inside a tall tree.
We eventually made our way back to the area where we began (this after blowing two chances at an Indigo Bunting) where I immediately missed an opportunity at a Magnolia Warbler. While waiting for his return, I did find this Yellow Warbler also well hidden in a (thankfully) small tree.
We completed the loop by returning again to the area of the nesting boxes where I found this lone Song Sparrow (at least I think it is a Song Sparrow) sitting out on a branch and singing his heart out. I caught him between verses!
And finally, what would an EdV birding walk be without a Tree Swallow.

Hope you enjoyed this little walk in the park!
