And I did. Don't look at this link unless you want to be shocked..

Picture this....

500mm + 2X TC (OK that's tough)
3200 ISO (OK that's crazy)
Image cropped a bit (Ok real crazy since noise will be absurd)

Now size down to 1500 pixels on longest side to kill a little more noise, add in some noise ninja then sharpen and check it out

the bokeh got smoothed out but the bird still looked pretty noisy.

If it was a 300 f/4 +1.4 tc shot on a 20d with ISO 400 then yeah on par. But with the specs you said? Insane.

people will always try to stop you doing the right thing if it is unconventional
Full frame and some primes.

Geeeze, I though you were going to say you dropped it in the swamp and got an accidental shot of a Tennessee Alligator.

Looks pretty good. Even better than some of mine. :)

Well from my tests 800-1600 ISO is my upper comfort limit. Those wanting the cam keep in mind there is certainly too much noise to shoot birds at 3200 ISO but I was wanting to see the boundaries I was comfortable with. ISO 800 looks real good on the MK III for birds.

For htr and anyone that's looking at the cam here is a full size 3200 ISO shot with no noise PP. I'm not saying 3200 ISO is what you should shoot at and these are not particuarly the best pics. 3200 ISO is not suitable for birds but with NN, etc you can make 8x10's or maybe 11x14's from it.

Here's ISO 800 which is a real winner for bird photography on this cam IMHO

Yea I'm just going extreme seeing what is possible for when I'm in situations that you want to push the limit with the light. I'll get back to making real pics tomorrow ;)

yes it's very very good for 3200 - i very rarely go above 200 iso with my 5d but i might go to 400iso with the mk3 i will get one once there out thats for sure .
thanks for showing these.
Rob.

I'll be happy just with the one that I ordered back in march, when it eventually arrives

Great images, I don't like using 800 ISO with the 5D but I can see it being used regularly with the 1DIII when I get it. That first shot at 3200 is amazing considering the extreme settings, not a quality that I would want on a regular basis but still usable and capable of catching that shot of a rarity that would otherwise be missed.

This camera seems to be capable of shooting with at least a 1 stop ISO advantage over my 5D which is very handy in a less than sunny climate, like England has much of the year.
