I know they're not the greatest pictures, took 'em just before the sun went down. I'm still learning my Sigma lens. But I wanted to know what would you have done when post processing these images. I did the best I could, need some tips and tricks to make 'em better.

First one was at ISO 200, last two at ISO 1600, the flower I used Noise Ninja, I'm still learning that filter... most of the time it seems like it adds more noise and reduces it, but I got some decent results from the flower.

I would sharpen them after running NN. Personally (and this is going to be your artistic decision) I prefer a sharp image even if it has grain to it, rather than eliminating noise with noise ninja all together and sacrificing some sharpness.

I usually run NN and then sharpen after that. It brings back some noise, but I try to find a happy medium.

I think that 1 and 2 could use more contrast (might actually help with the sharpness believe it or not!). Three IMO could be presented a little cooler (more towards the blue side) to make more of a true green and rich pink.

If you make it in your profile where we can edit your images, we could show you. Also, next time downsize the images a bit more. For people like me who have 12in laptops and are traveling, we can't see the whole image. The forum guidelines also restrict size, but moderators are understanding to new members about this type of thing.

If you haven't figured out resizing yet, in photoshop go to "Image-> Image size".

If you look to the left, you'll see how mine says image editing okay. If a user doesn't post that, it's against forum rules to edit their images.

You're new here, and it's different than many forums, so accept this as a helpful heads up with no hard feelings meant. :D

Oh it's fine, in fact I am happy he took the time to show me how it's done :D

I'm gonna edit my profile now.

Awesome! They look a lot better I think.

Did you use Noise Ninja to reduce noise or the built in tool in Photoshop? Also when sharpening which option did you use? I see a bunch of options to sharpen a pic, smart sharpen, unsharp mask etc.

For the contrast and brightness, did you simply use the Brightness/Contrast sliders in Photoshop:

Or something else?

I shoot in RAW and I heard about tweaking the contrast with that "curve" in the RAW tools screen. I've fooled around with that and didn't get that great results...

Also sorry everyone for the large photos, I made 'em big so you all could see the detail and I figured since this is a photo forum you all have giant LCD's, LOL

I'll knock 'em down to 800x600 next time.

Hi Frank.

in CS2, yes using Slider for Brightnest & Contrast - 1st
very gently control slider Color -> Red, Green & Blue - 2nd ( to get color u want )
i use Neat Image for noise reduction - 3rd ( shouldn't make any different to Noise Ninja )
last Filter -> Sharpen -> Unsharp Mask.

just follow this steps and you will have very same results. ;)

The first photo suffers from motion blur. You may have missed focus as well (note leaves and more focused spot on cat's back) Tough to fix this.

PJEP There are sharpening artifacts in this rendition.

A few tips that might help in low light.
Use a tripod
Make sure your speed will compensate for motion in your subject.
Be sure not to underexpose at high ISO.
Fill flash might help freeze the motion for you. (warning...cats don't like it)

Happy shooting!

heres my version of the first picture:

IMAGE NOT FOUND
HTTP response: NOT FOUND | MIME changed to 'image/gif' | Redirected to error image by TINYPIC

i adjusted color balance, light/darkness. then i seperated the cat and desaturated the background and gaussian blurred it a touch. then i put the cat back in and using the smudge tool, smudges his fur to look like fur again. I left the glow on the right because it looked like a highlight. Then added one sharpen.
flattened image, cut out it into a vertical and pasted in new image.

came out okay i think..
