Why did you have to buy PS again?

I bought ps again for heavy editing

aperture is great as a photo processing (digital dark room?) organising and distribution tool but it left me wanting more when it came to image manipulation. So i stumped up the cost of Photoshop (cost me £112 )

I know why PS is needed but wasn't sure if you already had a version of PS and bought it again when you switched to MAC. If so, you could have called Adobe and had them trsfer your license from a PC version to a MAC version for a very small fee.

That sucks. I hear about people doing this all the time on here. I tried looking around on Adobe's site but couldn't find anything (their search feature sucks).

it didnt realy bother me as it was ps 5 or something stupid.
back to the op's question aperture for me is amazingly fast at gettin the pictures off the Camera and then straight onto the web for the press

slide card in reader start off loading directly into aperture as the pictures load i go threw and lable (apple key and numer 1-5) the ones i want then do a smart gallery to select the all 5 star images select black web layout and hit the export button while thats running i mail all the picture desks i need to and then run a automated script to up load the finished gallery to where i need it. job done

Aperture has a nicer interface, and over all organization for folders/project.

RAW conversion quality is about the same for both

The on thing LR has that Aperture doesn't (even Photoshop for that matter) is an excellent "Print" section - too long to explain just experiment.

LR requires less from a system hardware compared to Aperture.

LR does have some excellent features though so I may end up using it on my PowerBook , then again I may just add ram for Aperture up to 2 gigs and keep using it.
For now though, nothing beats Canons DPP for RAW conversions .

Why do you say that? I've been using Aperture since starting in digital photography- what do you prefer about DPP?

I have to disagree with you. I used aperture over lightroom. I thought lightroom was bloating too much. Then I realised how absolutely impossible aperture is with the organization and folders. Say I want to find a picture in a folder and aperture is not open. I can't. The folder/file handling mimiks iphot which was driving me up a tree.

LR is way better in that department.

I also have to disagree with the printing. I was printing from lightroom to my Pixma ip4200 and got loads of banding. So I calibratde the printer heads, printed again and still had banding. Fired up canon's own photo printing software and no banding.

There are certain features in aperture I absolutely love and wish existed in LR (like the aperture loup) I also feel LR is more selfexplanatory in it's interface and easier to use. Aperture was a bit too much running around reading help files just to get started. Never had that with LR. I'm now reading Scott Kelby's book on LR just because I want to learn more about it.

Horses for courses really. Chose what works for you.
