Thanks Mitch. I don't want to go off into a sidebar conversation but this guy was the second bird in two days (the Yellow Warbler yesterday was the first) that visibly flinched the first time the flash fired. Neither bird left but they both did definitely flinch!

I haven't had a problem with flash flinching, but do notice birds do react to the shutter noise on the 30D.

Yeah and sometimes they seem to take off at the sound of the AF. But with this guy and the Yellow Warbler from the other series, both really flinched at the moment the flash discharged. But only the first time. They still stuck around and after that they were cool.
