hi

not sure if anyone else is having this but with a new 1dmkii i have bought 2nd hand I am getting quite a few files that lightroom is saying it can't read any ideas ?

another question if you export from lightroom does it compress an image a second time i shoot large jpgs do some metadata and simple crops then export and run a photoshop action but my concern is that they would get compressed again when exporting prior to the photoshop action.

Question 2
Lightroom does non-destructive edits but when you export all of your changes are "made" to the file. However, one save isn't going to cause any real damage.

As Mike says, one extra JPEG compression cycle won't do any real damage so long as you're not going overboard with the JPEG compression the second time.

However, if you're going to go through Lightroom anyway, why not shoot RAW and apply a suitable develop preset to all the files when importing them into Lightroom?

There are reasons not to do this - such as preferring the 'look' of a camera JPEG (if you've got them just how you like them), but I'd consider it. My workflow was pretty much 100% RAW anyway, and now I'm putting everything through Lightroom, there doesn't seem much point shooting camera JPEGs on RAW capable cameras. That, however, is my personal decision - you must weigh up the advantages and disadvantages for yourself.

Understood - shooting sports is a good reason to stick with camera JPEG.
