This is getting as bad as the "filter/no filter" debate...

Been a long time PC user.. Have had Thinkpads and other PC Laptops for over 15 years, desktops for much longer (back since the IBM 8088 ). Last fall, I bought an Apple iMac 24". This was my first Apple Computer (have had several iPods). Just from that experience alone, I will be getting a new MacBook Pro to replace my Thinkpad when/if they make an announcement in a couple of weeks.

Once you go Mac, you won't go back.

Run down to the Apple store and check one out, after a bit I'm sure you'll be hooked.

The learning curve ain't that bad either.

Ditto here. After more than twenty years of PC's, I switched to a 24" iMac and stuffed it with 4-gig of RAM. Awesome machine, and like others have said, adding peripherals couldn't be any easier that just plugging them in. No more crashes, no more applications locking up, no more registry issues (not to mention that it makes the iPod and iPhone a much better interface). Granted, the wealth of available software is not as great as that for PC, but for what I do, Photoshop and MS Office are all that I really need at this point. The programs that I really miss are MS Access and MS Project (and if I need them, I still have a Dell laptop). For some reason, Microsoft doesn't make them available for Mac, and I prefer to not run Windows on the iMac.

Were you paying attention last week when there were 17 critical OSX vulnerabilites patched?

And they were all too difficult to exploit in reality... but were fixed anyways

I just switched about two weeks ago.

There are three main applications that I use:
Lightroom
Quicken
Eclipse (I'm a Software Developer)

Lightroom on the Mac is just like Lightroom on the PC (only faster, much faster).

Quicken on the Mac sucks and you lose data in the transition. I have VMWare Fusion running an XP image I setup in Bootcamp and run Quicken for Windows in that image. Works faster than it did on my PC. . .

Eclipse is basically Eclipse on all the platforms I've used it on.

Tomorrow is my first new month of processing on the Mac. At the end of each month, I burn DVD's of all my archived DNGs (basically all unedited shots taken during the month) AND my "Keepers" (Shots that I kept in my LR Catalog). I was having problems on the PC in recent months, (I'd waste 2 DVDs to get a good burn) I hope to NOT have problems now.

Complete backups on the Mac simply 'Rock'. Time Machine is so simple. It has been a rather long time since I have had complete backups of my entire system (and never on an hourly basis).

If you want to be way more productive, and spend less time with crashes, driver issues, software compatibility, and just general b/s, get a mac. They're stupid simple and just work better than any PC i've ever used.

I ended up getting a MBP last year when I post this thread. I love it. Its been great. Once in a great while I will have a glitch but nothing too bad. Its been great. I love the simplicity. I would definitely recommend one.

I switched from windows to mac....Its just so much easier on a mac, really simple conversion for me. I have used them in my one semester of college. None of those extra trial programs that come preloaded on windows machines. I really love the look of the mac's. Out of all the Windows laptops I never really liked the look/feel of them. Had a few HP notebooks...

Plus the commercials are just brilliant.

I've had more problems with Macs than any PC I've ever owned.

I cringe when I'm at the library and all the PCs are taken (several hundred of them), and I have to use one of the few dozen Macs they have.

Congrats. I've used PC'S since the early days and still have a laptop at home, but about 9 years ago I switched to Mac. I use the Mac daily and have always been impressed with its GUI. I like the fact that I'm not constantly having to install drivers and try and find updates on internet sites etc like I do on my PC.

This debate will go on for ever as there is no right or wrong answer. Its really about what ever suits. I would say though that anyone who has considered a Mac and has given it a chance (it is so different to a PC) that they will become so familiar with it and find it so much more user friendly that I'd be surprised if they went back to PC's.

I'm about to purchase a new Laptop.... and yeah! it will be Mac based.
