OK, I want to emulate Fuji Velvia with the Mark II.
Do I set the camera up a certain way or post process, or both?
Anyone have any tips, tricks or ideas?

There is a more "saturated" color matrix for jpegs.. try color matrix three.

'It's not quite as intense as the ps actions.. but it is very nice!

Daniel,

Love Roger Cav's Veliva script, use it all the time. It does give lots of control. But that is a post-process only.

Now if Roger could write a script for the camera itself...... ;)

Cheers

Ian

Who would want to ever go back to film with all it's unreality after using the most colour acurate cameras EVER

If they are the most color accurate cameras ever, then why do they have so many different color settings? Hmmm? If the object was to just snap a shot of something yes, maybe that's great. But to produce stunning shots to the maximum of available technology, then some tweaking and setting manipulations are in order. Fuji Velvia characteristics are very appealing.

It is a fact of life now that "accurate" does not necessarily equal "pleasing"

The trend since Velvias intro a mere decade or so ago is rich saturated colors.. "to good to be true" color.

This is what people have come to expect and strive for.

not me!
In fact i must admit i do love the 'bright sunny day' look of a 10D....this surprises even me.
Maybe i've had an absolute gut full of velvia and the endless, pointless chase for more saturation.

Sounds like you should invest in a few Black & White CF cards and stop the chase all together. :D But then there would be the pesky issue of contrast and grain to deal with....where will the insantiy stop? :P
