I don't know what was wrong with me that day. I woke up and felt terrible mentally. I for some reason had ZERO confidence going into the day, it was really tough. My wife/assistant did a great job of pushing me to get over it... I'm so lucky she hangs out with me. In the end it seemed to turn out decently so I'm relieved. I hope it doesn't happen again this weekend....

As usual I had equipment problems. stupid pocketwizards would refuse to fire if my on-camera flash was on. As soon as I turned the on-cam 580 off it would trigger. The first dance was a writeoff because the lighting wouldn't work so I only got plain jane on-camera flash shots instead...

1. Not fantastic, I just thought it was funny.

2. Flower girl was quite a charmer

3. These guys met when they were 6. Buddies for life.

5. The city is littered with dandelions now like a plague.

6. Edmonton has the worlds largest urban parkland in the world. So many spots you'd never guess was in the city. This is in downtown:

7.

8. Ukrainian wedding, so perogies/cabbage rolls for dinner and Ukrainian dancers showed their stuff during the dance. (LOTS of Ukrainians in this area)

I've seen better from you .. they just seem to lack the quality of light & creative composition you've shown before.

I do like the light in 3 and the drama in 7.

A bad day for you is better than a good day for me so I'll sit down now

Hi Lloyd! First off I'd like to say that I think you are a fantastic photographer and your use of off camera flash is stunning! I'd love to hear your thoughts on the thread I just posted in this forum regarding weddings and off camera flash.

That said, here are my thoughts on the photos:

1. Sweet capture. Her expression is priceless! Keeper for sure.

2. Flower girls always seem to be so cute, eh? I love your use of DOF on this one. What was the aperture?

3. Great shot! I love the detail you got in the sky. Do you recall your lighting set up? I am guessing one off camera flash to the hard right (maybe at 30 degrees to the subjects)? To be honest, I am not sure if I fancy the vignetting you added. Any chance we could see it without the vignette?

4. Contrary to almost every image I've seen of yours, I don't know if I am a fan of this photo. My eyes sort of get lost and I don't know what I am to be looking at. I think the grooms head gets in the way, confusing me. Could just be me though.

5. Love the perspective and, again, the use of off camera flash. As a note on the pose, I think it could be improved if the groom were looking at the bride and the bride was blowing the flower's pedal's into the groom's face. Nonetheless, this is still a great capture!

6&7. Amazing location! Great shots. 7 looks slightly underexposed to me on my callibrated macbook pro. I wish we had locations like this where I am!

8. Sweet shot! I love it!

All in all - the B&G will be very happy with their shots!

"Wasn't feeling well" ? Well, as someone said above, I'd hate to see your photos when you ARE feeling well! LOL

Anyway, take my comments with a grain of salt, as I am no where near the callibre of photographer as you are. I only have experience shooting a few weddings as a 2nd shooter and am constantly learning more.

Great job Lloyd!

Yeah, I really really love Edmonton. I haven't been to all cities in canada but I've been to just about all the bigger ones from Victoria to Halifax and I think it's one of the most beautiful, and also the most underrated. (Most think edmonton is a dump, which is fine with me, let's keep this city a secret... =)

2. I was using 2.8, like 90% of my shots. I don't buy a lens unless it can be used wide open.

3. 580EX was to my left at about 45 deg, as I need all the power I can get because I shot at F/14. Now that you mention it, maybe the vignette is a little too strong.

4. Hmmm, that's interesting. I really like it. Goes to show how different everyone is...

5. I actually have a whole series of these, with the both blowing on the flower, looking at each other, etc... this was just one of the bunch. I'd post all if it wasn't against the rules... ;)

7. wanted a kinda spooky dramatic look to it.

thanks for the encouragement. I don't know what was up with me that day... what a whiny little brat I was. Maybe I'm going through male menopause or something... ha ha ha.

Nice work, as usual. I don't think anybody can be expected to be at their best, physically and mentally every time they go to work. Wedding photography is one of those jobs where there is not a lot of room for error or having a bad day. It's good to see that you are a true pro and pulled through with flying colors...and flying B&Ws too ;)

I too think Edmonton is one of the best places to live, I grew up living in the river valley and it truly is a special place. I'm trying to place your location for shots #6 & #7. #3 looks like it might be near Kinsmen somewhere?

Good thinking with the dandelions...not that you have much choice...they really are everywhere this year.

There certainly are a lot of Ukrainian families around here. I married into a Ukrainian farming family...it's been great because we get invited to so many weddings...which is how I learned/practiced wedding photography for years before doing it on my own.

These shots are incredible!

I agree with the other guys, if you shoot like this when you're not felling well, I wonder how your shots come out when you are feeling good lol.

Good stuff!

Something about #3 looks artificial. There are hard shadows in front of them, yet brightly lit faces. Well exposed, but looks odd to me. #6 and #7 are great. The sky in #7 is absolutely amazing.

Lloyd, Good job my friend. I tried that technique you used in No 3 the other day....and failed miserably! I underexposed for the sky to make it sing, but my 580 on full power 4 feet away from the couple just was NOT powerful enough.... I was baffled.

I'm still not sure what went wrong, but something did...perhaps my flash was on high speed sync!!!

What do you think happened? I underexposed the sky about 2 stops. Anyways, ignore this if it's too much of a hijack. Good job, once again.

Off camera flash...you could call it Lloyd's speciality.
