Adding a 580EX flash to my 30D and 400L brings the night to life.

There are about 4 Tawny frogmouths in my area and they are quite used of me to the point where I can now get very close and photograph them within 5 meters.
It was the eye that made this picture.

I spotted this barn owl but did not have my camera so I raced back to get it and he was still there after about 15 minutes when I returned.

If you look closely at this photo this barn owl has just finished eating after a kill as there is blood on the front claw and beak.

Thanks Mike, howzitboy.

I do a lot of night driving in the bush when at work and take my camera. They are birds of habit and very easy to find once you know their usual perches. Much more approachable at night than day.

Yes, love the Barn Owl, but the Frogmouth is cool too.

Very nice shots. And the barn owl looks like the same one we have here. They sure do get around.

Really nice shots. How do you focus!?! I only ask because i'm playing with the idea of getting a flash, so i can try to get a shot of the local Nightjar's. :D

I like the way the flash has made the background completely dark. Very appropriate for an owl!

Amazing..

I'd like to get any of those birds in the day, let alone at night with a flash :)
