Early in the morning (8:00am), Canon EF 400mm f/5.6 L with flash and BB for the light source. I saw this beautiful medium size bird with a crest. An ash-throated flycatcher, normally seen in the desert foothills, the coastal areas of California is a little outside of its normal distribution.

Wonderful shot Dennis! A question, do you normally use flash when shooting birds, do they tolerate it? I'm a newbie at bird photography.

Great shots Dennis. I just came across this guy in my books the other day while looking up another bird that lives here. Your pics are way better. :)

Very nice shots of a bird I've never seen. Great find. Looks fairly similar to the Great-crested Flycatcher.

Dennis, That is a sweet series of a bird that few have photographed. We had one here in Maine (Saco, on the Saco River) late last fall and boy did it bring out the Birders - It was the 8th sighting ever in Maine. - Bob
