Hi, i've just bought a domain name from godaddy.com to use with my zenfolio account, i have set the domain up so now my zenfoilio no longer has zenfolio in the url.... only, it doesn't seem to be working properly.... when i enter my new domain address www.sjcphotos.co.uk (external link) my zenfolio page opens as planned, but none of the galleries within will open..... i click a link and the browser will just freeze and do nothing :( [could someone please check if it does the same for them....]

if i use my regular zenfolio address: www.sjcphotos.zenfolio.com (external link) the site operates as normal with no problem.

anybody got any ideas as to why it's not working?

Steve

Seems to work ok for me Steve. I used it in Firefox and IE.

Maybe your browser needs refreshing?

Hi Imran, thanks for looking.... did the galleries on the main page also work for you?? the main page displays fine for me, the trouble starts when i click on any of the galleries..... it just freezes and ie no longer responds.... i've refreshed the browser and deleted all history and cookies etc but still it doesn't work here on my work computer, but it works fine using the regular zenfolio url. i'll see how it is later at home, i hope it's just a glitch with my works system! i don't want to get a bunch of business cards printed and nobody be able to get the web address to work......

Thanks again imran, if anybody else could also take a second to see if it works i'd appreciate it!

Thanks

Steve

Sorry didn't get back to you sooner Steve.

I had a look through a few of the galleries, Badminton and a few others and they all seem to work ok for me.

Another thing i just noticed. When i browse through your galleries it still shows your zenfolio address at the top, as opposed to your new website address. Have you set up web forwarding with your new address or actually setup with the CNAME as they suggest?

I've yet to set up my web address with zenfolio, but i would have thought that the bar at the top should be your .co.uk address and not zenfolio.

on godaddy.com i can't find how to do what zenfolio suggest - instead it has a cotrol panel where you select domain forwarding and put the address you would like to forward it to and then in the next step i selected 'mask domain' and then it asks 'Mask Title' where i added the zenfolio url again so that it should mask it.

On zenfolio however where it says to 'enable custom domain' and you put your new domain name so zenfolio knows what the new domain is, it won't let me do it. it just has this message everytime i select it.

The domain name is not configured with a CNAME record pointing to zenfolio.com. If you changed domain configuration recently, you might need to wait for up to 48 hours for changes to propagate over the Internet.

am i doing it all wrong??? i can't find anywhere on godaddy to change 'cname' only the controol panel that i used as described above........

I believe the thing about CNAME is possibly an extra cost. I'm no web guru but i know when i contacted Gridstar about my domain, they said something similar. My Zenfolio is no where near what I would like it to be, so i've left it for now and thought i'd tackle it later.

Go Daddy might be able to help you out if you ask them specifically about CNAME.

ps.. from what i remember, Gridstar mentioned it was something to do with IP addresses.

I just thought that godaddy.com did that for you through their simplified control panel so computer illiterate dimwits like me could do it without getting all confused by things like dns and cname etc..... is that not the case?

This is the procedure i went through on godaddy to set up masking.

Masking works with domain name forwarding, which redirects all Web traffic for a domain to a specified URL. When someone enters your domain name into a browser, our system automatically forwards or redirects them to the URL. However, with masking, the domain name displayed in the address bar does not change.

Forwarding with Masking prevents visitors from knowing that they have been redirected by retaining your domain name in their Web browser's address bar. You can also add a title and meta tags to your masked domain. Title and meta tag information is important to a Web site’s search engine ranking, but it does not change the look of your Web site.
To Add Masking to Your Domain Name Forwarding in the Domain Control Center

1. Log in to your Account Manager.
2. From the Domain Names menu, select Manage Domains. The Domain Control Center opens.
3. In your list of domain names, select the checkbox next to the domain name(s) you want to forward.
4. Click Forward.
5. In the Domain Forwarding section, select Enable.
6. In the Forward To field, enter the URL you want to forward your domain name(s) to. http://www.sjcphotos.zenfolio.com (external link)
7. In the Redirect Type area, select one of the following:

301
Redirects to the site you specified in the Foward To field using a "301 Moved Permanently" HTTP response. The HTTP 301 response code tells user-agents (including search engines) that the location has permanently moved.
302
Redirects to the site you specified in the Forward To field using a "302 Found" HTTP response. The HTTP 302 response code tells user-agents (including search engines) that the location has temporarily moved.

8. On the Masking tab, select Mask Domain.
9. Enter a Masked Title and Meta Tags in the appropriate fields. www.sjcphotos.co.uk (external link)
10. Click OK.

so does anybody know why it's working for me in Firefox and not in IE? [I've tried on 2 computers - but madferrit seems to be able to get it ok]

I'm still having trouble with this if anyone can help....

occasionally i have succeeded by clicking on the link in my og post but if i type the address in ie it never works..... really weird.

if others could check for me by typing the url www.sjcphotos.co.uk (external link) rather than clicking it i'd appreciate it. i've tried 3 different computers at work and one at home and it's not worked on any. although it works fine in firefox and my girlfriends work computer works fine and it works fine for imran who posted above. ???

please note... the front page works fine, but when i click on any of the galleries is when the it all goes wrong.

okay steve you are doing it incorrectly. DO NOT forward to your zenfolio account. Do you have the Premium plan with zenfolio?

I am assuming that you do. If you do, email zenfolio and they will email you back with a step by step tutorial on how to do it with godaddy.com; you need to create a CNAME and not forward your url...
