The exif info is in the photos. This is my coworkers Minolta Dimage Z5. There is a circular hard black shadow on the top left at 6mm and at the top left and right at 10mm. It seems like he only gets these shadows when the focal length is wide 6mm and 10mm. I'm not sure, but it seems to be catching part of the lens barrel. Nothing is in front of the lens and the cap is hanging way below the barrel.

Thanks for anyone who has some input!

Richard

You seem to have missed the photos. ;) Without those it is hard to say.

The focal length of the lens can be 6mm and 10mm but the equivalent focal length (in 35mm terms) is found by multiplying the lens' focal length by some crop factor (1.6 on Canon APS-C cameras). Just like when an EF-S lens has a focal length of 18-55 but when used on a Rebel XT the 35mm equivalent focal length is (18-55 * 1.6 = 29-90).

Excellent point! I have forgotten about the crop factor! I have edited my original post and have also posted some photos. Thanks for your help! :D

If there's nothing in front of the lens, then I'ld think somehing is inside the lens: Send it in, cause something's busted IMO.

I agree, send the lens to Canon. Something is wrong internally.

I'm not sure if either of the last two posting has clearly read my original post, but this is not a Canon SLR. Therefore, I can't send in the Canon lens nor is it a lens hood. I guess I will have to send the "point and shoot" Minolta Dimage Z5 in for service, unless anyone else has commetnts....

Before sending it in see if you can email the Customer Service department these shots. Maybe they can tell you what might be wrong before you send it in.

well normally on fish eye lenses at a similar focal length you would get those curves in the corners because lenses are circular and sensors are square and it could be possible that since its off center then its probably an Image Stabilizing sensor or lens.
check out the images at the bottom of this page taken from a Peleng 8mm circular fisheye

No mention of a fisheye (As I read it): The lens is a "5.83 - 69.9 mm (35mm equivalent: 35 - 420mm)"
