PBASE User Experience?

I'm looking for an online location to park my images, and I'm thinking about using PBASE. There seem to be a LOT of people using that vendor.

Can anyone tell me whether they have been satisfied with PBASE? Is it easy to load images? Do I have to send them separate thumbnails and larger (print-size) files, or can I just send the latter? In other words, how are the thumbnails made?

I just want to have a place where people can look over my images, and download and print them if they wish. (Yes, I'm an amateur, so I'm not giving away my livelihood!) Thanks!

Mike

I use and like pbase. They recently increased the amount of server space you get for $23/year from 100 to now 200MB. (You can get more if you pay more.)

You only need to post one size, and it automatically scales the photo down to the thumbnail size, as well as links under each photo for the viewer to select small, medium or large size to view. It takes a short time to figure out how to create galleries, etc, but not hard to do.

Best wishes whatever you decide!

Thanks, Jim! I was hoping someone would say it's easy to use. I want to put up some images, but I suffer from chronic laziness. :D

Excellent service. Easy to use. I just resize my images to 800 at widest, JPEG quality 80.

Yes, Pbase is good. You can even customize your space.

Great service, straight and easy to use interface (for example you can upload a ZIP files with all your photos and the server will extract all the files into the gallery, instead of uploading the files one-by-one - very convenient), fast servers. 23 $USD is very small fee for this service and 200MB of space.
I use it for almost 2 years now and I'm very pleased with it. Highly recommended !

Best wishes,
Oleg.

I recently had abit of a sniff round there too.I couldn't find any info easily pertaining to max image size or much more impeortantly wether they compress the images at all.

I currently host mine on photo.net which is totally free but recently they have started to overcompress images so much that many objects look like they're surrounded by tiny flies. The heavy jpeg compression look

I've been using pbase for over two years. I think it's great. Just recently, I started resizing my photos for the web. Wow, pbase upload time is like 4 seconds per photo with broadband.

My only complaint is my photos displayed on pbase aren't as sharp as when I view the original. It is hardly noticeable, but I figured I should mention it.

Check out my pbase gallery at www.pbase.com/rbndave (external link)

I've been using pbase for a year and like it. Easy to use, fast servers, easy for users to browse. My only gripe right now is that they don't provide a service such as Smugmug's (external link) print ordering. Sure, people can download from pbase and have the images printed but most of my family/friends/associates would prefer to just order prints. Go figure...

So for now; I'm a subscriber of both pbase and smugmug.
