Thanks to the very informative discussions recently on tripods and ballhead selections, I finally bought a Gitzo 2540, an RRS BH-40, L-plate for my 30D and a lens plate for my 70-200.

I just wanted to express a word of gratitude to JohnJ80, Lightstream, and Prydain in particular for their knowledge, experience, and willingness to help the rest of us make informed decisions.

Many thanks, gents. :)

not to sound cheesy, but it's the active sharing of knowledge and overall tone of friendliness here that sets this forum apart from a lot of others out there.

That was very nice - thanks for that.

You have a great setup and I bet you are going to find that one quite useful.

Here is a picture taken with my XT and 70-200 f/4L on my 1258 (precursor to 2540), BH40 and L plate. IIRC, the Exif was something like 1/60s and f/11 at sunset or something like that. Conditions were windy and this was a shot a considerable distance away. Yet, look at the detail in the tree branches.

Let us know how this works for you.

J.
