Here is a juvenile Blue Jay making himself comfortable amidst a lovely bunch of coconuts in my back yard. The image is a crop of a pic with my 5D, 70-200 f/2.8 IS with 1.4X extender - f/7.1, 1/400 sec, ISO 640. Let me know what you think please. I am very new at bird photography, but anxious to learn.

The only advise I can give is to tell you to get closer. Doesn't matter what lens you use, try and get closer. The rest of your problems will get smaller, the closer you get.

After looking at your gallery, you know how to use light and take a good crisp picture. Same thing works for birds. ;)

Nicely posed capture Richard. In addition to Mitch's advise, a longer lens and lots of practice is highly recommended.

A 100-400 is in my near future. I will grab one while the instant rebate sale is underway!
