I just sent back to dealer for refund. I decided agasint getting it fixed under warranty. So i will just take my luck of the draw again in the next month or two as they start coming in to stock at places.

Local guy just got one. He said he would sell it to me but it would have to be tommorrow afternoon after he trains his staff on the new camera. Then he wants $4699 plus tax. Don't think i will be doing that. Just have keep cool for another month probably.

I'm sorry Steve. It's a crying shame. I think you did the right thing with the refund. No reason to have to have something brand new repaired before you even use it. Good luck an getting a new one soon.

Canon repair is great in some places, and frankly sucks in some countries, according to POTN member stories! The USA is a great place for repairs; Canada's seems to suck.

The length of your wait for replacement is going to be affected by the demand for the MkIII vs. how many had been shipped from Canon to the distributors then to the retailers. There might be a limited supply of a new product, or not. If the supply is limited, getting the repair could be faster. I'd call the retailer before deciding which action to take.
