i guess spring is a rough time of year for birds... some of them really look like they've been through a wringer.

HAHA, poor thing. It's hard to tell if it's male or female at this point. Keep an eye on it, maybe it will lose all it's head feathers and you'll get a memorable shot. :D

Last year we had a female cardinal that had lost all her head feathers. That had to be the most goofy looking bird alive... We called her "Grace"... :lol:

Was that you that posted that shot. I had never seen or even heard of that until I saw it here in the forums. I'm hoping to see it here this summer, although I woudn't wish that on any bird. ;)

I cheat. I put branches over the railing of our back deck (tied to the railing, actually) then scatter bird seed along the rail. The birds land there on their way down to the railing, and I wait in the kitchen with a 400mm pointed at the perch. Ta-DA! The trick is to change the perch every day or so, that way you're not shooting the same stick every time. Give it a try, it's a great method to get closer to your subject, and that's the secret.;)
