It's the The Doges Palace.

I thought that at first too, but The Doges Palace sits right on the "shore line" and is a fairly "flat faced" building. And it faces St. Marco's Square. Since Roy said "No" to St. Marco's Square, I would assume it is not ANY of the buildings that are in (and create by their existence) "St. Marco's Square".

I was racking my brain trying to remember steps leading up to Doges Palace. Couldn't remember any at all. I reviewed all of my photos from there and couldn't find any steps, so I discounted my immediate thought... I just found them.

And now I realize why you said "No" to St. Marco's Square... These steps are in the courtyard from where you can not even see St. Marco's Square.

Good photo Roy! I need to start TRUSTING my memory! (The trouble is, it is usually wrong, so even when it's right, I doubt it!)

Yes you're right SoccerRef, you can't even see the square from here - and I don't think the Palace is actually in the square, it's just to one side. So trust your memory and have faith!:D
