Plettenberg Bay...

Yes you have the place, but do know the name of the hotel? Incidently its building I believe had issues.

Where are you based to have gotten this so quickly as it is not the commonest location for non SA visitor AFAIK & if you know the area can you name the 'landmark' that I would see if I were facing the other direction?

Oh and welcome to WAIN and POTN or should that be the other way round? Edit, crikey I just noticed 3 posts and joined back in Nov 2006 !

Beacon Island Hotel

Yes Derek and while we are waiting for grj_app to get back can you work out the landmark behind me?

Oh for the record it is a beautifull location and I recommend the Lookout Restaurant at the end of the main beach area the other side of the hotel you can see! From there and taking advice about the tide times you can walk along the beach to the Keerbooms River mouth.

We got to see some but not in that immediate area - as for riding I do not think anyone rides African Elephants for commercial reasons i.e. tourism. But in Plett we did get to see some Dolphins offshore and Seals quiet close up when we went out on the local Rescue RIB quite near to the landmark I refer to!

I have the benefit of being an ex-pat. The view with the hotel is on just about every picture you see of Plettenberg Bay, that I've seen anyway, although many pictures show the other side with the bay and the town. I don't remember the whole story of the hotel, but I think it was a very unpopular idea way back when they built it. I've never actually been there, unfortunately, so I can't comment on the landmark you are referring to. Maybe next trip I'll get there.
