This species of bird usually has me waving them off in an attempt to keep them from the feeders, because they'll show up in numbers that simply overwhelm the other birds. But this female has a certain regal quality to her demeanor and I've learned to tolerate (and photograph) this bird.

Pretty darn sharp! You can count the feathers. Well done.

A "couple of those" would soon translate into a squawking, teeming horde of pooping seed snarfing pests, trust me... Sparrows might multiply in equal numbers, but at least other birds can get to the feeders when they're at your house.

Great shots, nice soft light, details and colours, even though I am not particularly fond of these birds, she sure posed nicely for you.:)

Very nice Bob. I have several here too, and I am partial to them. Kind of plain and drab looking, but they are very smart birds.

Smart is part of the problem! They fly in packs, land and snarf down the seed with the efficiency of piranha in a feeding frenzy, then scoot away at the slightest threat, only to return instantly to repeat the procedure. You can't chase away cowbirds, only discourage them for a couple of seconds...

Mine aren't afraid of me, but I only have about 5 or 6 and I talk to them. ;)

Beautiful captures. I've seen these guys around but never with this kind of detail.
