I know the Pocket Wizard Plus and Plus IIs have only 4 channels. It says something about digital encoding also. Do the pocket wizards just code to the ones your using or will anyone in the area of 1600 feet with a pocket wizard set at the same channel fire.

I thought I saw somewhere that is you hold the test button while turning it on it will sync to the pocket wizard in the imediate area. I am probably imagining things.

Also, with the mulitimax being able to fire each strobe individually, I would assume that either each strobe would have to be on a seperate channel. Is this true, or would i have to have all multimax trancievers to make it work like that? It is a little confusing. They don't really go into detail about how the different models work together.

Yup, if there's another Wizard near by using the same channel it will trigger your lights and vice versa.

You would think they would make a 16 model that wasn't so expensive.

Speaking of PW's and the less expensive version (at $200 each, I shouldn't be referring to the PW Plus as 'less expensive')..

My PW's came about three weeks ago, three PW Pluses. The mount and tightening screw feels VERY cheap to me. I feel like I'm going to break the thing every time I mount it on my camera. Was the workmanship always like that? I used some PW's about two years ago and they seemed much sturdier and a heavier plastic.

Maybe I got some knockoffs (nah, I didn't - they were sealed in box and from B&H) but the el-cheapo radio triggers are a heavier plastic than the PW's.

Oh well, maybe thats why they were running that sale, manufacturer used the wrong type of plastic? :)

Hi John,

You already know I'm a big fan of Pocket Wizards but when I got mine I was a little surprised at the mount. The plastic casing, athough cheap, doesn't bother me. Everything is plastic. No big deal. But the mount had me concerned so when I called over to Mac Group and talked to them about it I was told that the mount was intentionally changed and what we are calling cheap is a certain flexibility that is intentional, knowing the abuse it may suffer and how easy it is to bump or knock.

A good question that I neglected to ask was whether the Multi Max had the same intentionally flexible mount or if it was constructed differently.
