How can I get Windows to show my camera as a drive?

All my previous cameras did this, but now with my Rebel XT, I can only get the camera wizard to grab my pictures, or display a list of files without being able to browse the camera's directory structure.

Previously, my cameras would show up as an actual drive, where I could freely browse the directory structure. Anyone know how I can change it to work like this?

Not possible.
You’ll have to use card reader to have your pics folders shown as a drive..
Besides, USB 2.0 card reader is much, much faster than EOS Utility.

What we see depends mainly on what we look for.

Well that sucks :( Guess I'll have to go invest in a card reader, probably needed to anyways.

Card readers are the way to go, or buy a mac...

Even five year old clunkers have a USB port (probably on the back).

Your camera came with a USB cable to connect it to the computer, and software that will download the images.

I have card readers in two computers, but don't even bother using them (they were installed when the PC's were built.)

The card reader is the answer. Very easy, very fast.

However, I do wonder why Canon don't have the camera set to mount as a drive. I've used a few ancient HP USB1 cameras and a lot of more recent Olympus cameras (waterproof P&S for under $300! ) and they all just mount fine. Plug 'em in and watch as an E:/ drive (or whichever) shows up. Wonder why Canon don't do that? It's easy to get the photos off, but it could be easier.
