It wasn't broken. The AF on the Mk. III works perfectly.

isn't it amazing how a rumor that (as far as I know) was never actually proven to be an actual problem has created so much worry in people that they're even deciding to hold off getting the camera for something to be fixed that's not even broken to begin with?

The guys had an early prototype to play with and the AF wasn't finished on it. Seriously people, the internet will kill you if you aren't careful. The 1D Mk.III has the best AF system of all time on the planet. Go buy it now.

Do you actually mean to imply that the internet cannot be trusted for reliability, accuracy and truthfulness?;)

Horrors, what's the world coming to?

I'm saying it can be trusted for exploding rumours, mistruths and distrust for no apparent reason!

bannedPermanent ban

Very interesting read. If what Rob has said can be believed, there are some minor issues with the 1D Mark III's AF performance, but they don't appear to be major and will by the sounds of it be ironed out with a firmware upgrade of some sorts (if I'm reading between the lines correctly).

The highlight tone priority mode looks good!

On other notes, I didn't know that Canon sourced sensors for it's digicams from Sony, that's surprising. And a change in file format, interesting. I cannot see them changing jpeg to be honest, since it's practically an industry standard, so that means the RAW file format might change. Hopefully they consider using an open standard like DNG.

Andy Rouse thinks the AF is awesome and he bought his own. His only concern seems to be the smaller file size.:
