Hahnemuhle Paper

your thoughts on this paper guys ..especially for b&w and epson r1800
i know that there are couple printers better suited for b&w but at least i can get the right paper for that

The Hahnemuhle Fine Art Rag paper appears to be a pretty good paper, I have one print done for me on this paper and I like the paper, but although I plan on getting some in the future should I upgrade my printer, I have not used this paper on a regular basis, so can only speak to the good reputation and my one print (plus the others I saw printed on the same weekend.

The Epson Ultra Smooth Fine Art Paper of the same print actually looked better of the same image, but that was with the K-3 inks on a Epson 4800, while the Hhnemuhle paper was done on a Canon IPF-5000. Both had about the same texture and consistancy. So take your pick.

Hope that helps more then confuses. Given my choice I would get some of both and try them out to see which one I liked best and then just use my choice in the future.

That being said, the next paper I'm going to try, will probabely be Innova: Click and click
Saw it at the Photokina and it looked very nice...

I have the Epson R800 printer which uses the same inks as your printer and I have used Hahnemuhle Photo Rag for most of my printing for some time. It just produces the best results...simple as that. It's superb for Black and Whites so go ahead and give it a try.

I downloaded the printer profile for this paper from my supplier's website (he sent it to me actually). The good news is, Hahnemuhle are bringing out a Photo Rag Pearl which should be even better for Black and Whites. Can't wait to try it.

Just as an aside; I tried the Canson Photo Satin to see what it was like and it produced a stunning black and white, and the color image I tried was up there among the best too..so it might be also worth looking at.
