How long before we see a price drop in UK for the EOS 1D Mk III ?

I am desperate to buy the new beast, I have not been on any waiting list and started phoning a few independant retailers this morning. First one had a 1D Mk III in stock but reserved and "there is a waiting list". Later this afternoon I recieved a phone call saying that others had dropped out and did I want to buy at £2995?

I am a keen amateur, my job doesn't depend on it, and I dont want to pay out £3K and see the price fall in a couple of months when more bodies hit the shelves :( Other dealers have already quoted me £2450 - £2799 when they receive their stock.

I also have a MK II to shift :(

HELPPPPPPPPPP!!!! Any advice?? Wait or buy??

Within photographic retail in the UK these things will be like gold dust at the moment. And I'd be very surprised to see anyone carrying 'lots' of them ever, which is usually the main driving force behind retailers offering lower prices. Look how much the 1DS MkII has dropped since release, not a lot. IMO you'll only see significant drops when there's a Mk IV on the way. Til then, a couple of £100 at best, and in the time you spend waiting for that you'll have made that back surely.

Cheers, Dave.

That's why I was chuffed to get mine for £2700 on a store-opening day back on April 1st. Not only did I get a discount that is unlikely to be matched for months (at least), it got me to the top of the list.

The other thing was that although the price might drop a bit (or the package deals improve) towards Christmas, I'd have lost the summer season. You can't believe how frustrating it was for me to receive my 300mm f2.8 in December - with virtually all local motorsport at a standstill.

I probably should have ordered two and sold one on...

Don't think you'll see a significant drop as long as there are people queuing to buy them. And I think there'll be queues for quite a while yet.

If you want one, can afford one, and can actually find one, then grab it! I phoned an Aussie dealer on Friday who sold their first shipment of Mk III's for $6200. They told me their second shipment will be selling for $6600 just because the demand is so high and the availability is so low. I don't see them dropping in price for a long while.

Your selling your MKII to help pay for the MKIII but your problem is that when the MKIII price drops then so will the value of your MKII so whatever you save you then lose.. It's false economy.. Still good prices for MKII now so no point waiting.

I am in the same situation as the OP accept he has more spare money about:)

I don't think we will see many in the shops this year, never mind a price drop. Maybe we should hold out until we pay the same as the states, you will still be waiting in a hundred years.
I know this is a gripe, but why over here in Europe do we have to pay to keep down the price for the richest country in the world. I read an article that a lot of pros over here are boycotting CS3 as it is up to 100% more expensive (depending on the package) than USA.

Try AJ Purdy on Monday, they are getting a delivery Tuesday and I don't think all are pre orders. I got mine Saturday from them with no pre order just rang up and went down to get it. They are doing free 2gb card and extra Battery free (that's about £150 in value). I also got a 24-105 lens at a really good price and free UV filter.... Oh and a voucher for £25 off the 580 EXII flash :)

RGB Technology ( http://www.rgb-tech.co.uk (external link) ). Unsure if they were UK stock or not. Other posters have suggested they are, but cannot see why they would offer them so much cheaper, especially with supply and demand as it is.

Yeah but will they actually get them at that price or is it a ploy to get you to order then hit you with the real price once in and you have been waiting and waiting....... How good is this company ????
