So yesterday I woke up very bored(as i am currently out of a job, which sucks) and decided to shoot something different. I had never really shot any landscapes before so i thought i might give it a shot. I got in my car, drove almost 2 hours to Rocky Mountain National Park, found a trail leading to a lake that I heard was cool, so I could shoot it.

All in all, it was alot of fun. Ive never been hiking before so it was a learning experience(Im out of shape! jeez!). It was after noon by the time I got up there, and it had been raining off and on all day so there were tons of clouds everywhere. These were the only 2 I liked from the trip.

Any tips would be greatly appreciated cause I had no idea what I was doing! Im curious to find out, what time of day(morning or evening) do you guys prefer? I would like to go back soon but I really have to plan it better since its pretty far away.

Nice photos, but it does seem like you need additional lighting or saturation in these photos... I agree with the last post that it does seem a little flat. Nonetheless, great job!

try not to take the shots at mid-day when the sun is at a bit of an angle it adds a bit of modeling to the shot ,try to shot in raw for better processing hope do not mind i have added a bit of contrast and saturation to this one for you keep on taking the shots hope you find work soon its a very exspesive hobby of ours

The stream and the mountain in the first shot are dead center. Go back and reshoot with them not centered in the frame.

The evergreen in the 2nd photo is dead centered. Go back and reshoot with it to the right and more or the mountain stream flowing on the left.

Aren't you glad that you shoot digital and do not have to pay $25 for film and processing when you are unemployed?

BTW: I hope you find a job soon. BTDT and it sux.

thanks for the edit, i did them on my laptop and now im thinking that it needs some serious calibration! With the second shot, the only way i can move is to the right, and its only a few inches before I would be floating :(

ill go back again but think ill pick a different lake this time(theres tons in that area) and try some of your advice, and ill try to go much earlier.

I normally shoot a mixture of sports and automotive and studio stuff so this was just kind of a fun weekend adventure, but im thinking I liked it cause it gave me some alone time and was much less stressful. plus it gives me another excuse to save my nickels and dimes(the few ive got!) for a 5D
